Ian Anglum

Based in Manchester, Vermont, USA

Ian Anglum is now a Senior at Burr and Burton Academy in Manchester, VT. I live in the bordering town of Dorset and I have been studying film for 2 years now and have directed, shot, and edited many films alongside my classmates and other cinematographers and have received a Gawlik award for one of them. I have worked and acted on the set of "The Bachelor"and have also worked behind the scenes at the Independent Television Festival (ITV Fest), which is hosted in my hometown of Manchester, VT. While working on short films, I am the captain of the BBA Boy's Varsity Soccer team, and is also on the Varsity Lacrosse team. I also snowboard during the winter and was on the BBA 2018 State Championship team. I also work at the Stratton Mountain Deli during the winter and am a course maintainee at the Manchester Country Club during the summer.

I have become proficient in the use of the camera. I have learned how to use the lenses at my disposal and it has opened more of a creative insight for me. Things I want to get better at in terms of cinematography are getting better at script writing and locking down audio. I feel that audio tends to be the main malfunction when filming for me, so to lock that down would be great. I feel the only way to get better at skills in cinematography is to learn by my mistakes. Mistakes I have made using cameras or mics or even scriptwriting preproduction is how I am able to grow and become a better cinematographer. I believe I held the same eagerness I have today to be in the class, but with different circumstances. When I first started, I was anxious to just get my hands on a camera. Now, I am eager to learn new skills with the camera and turn my new skills I have learned into habits. This semester, I want to learn how to promote myself as a cinematographer in the world. To do that, I have to show people why I contend in the world of so many aspiring cinematographers. Pushing out content that I feel represents my work ethic and craftsmanship is necessary for me to achieve this goal.
